How to Get Around Sierras of Cordoba

Getting in: Córdoba has an international airport with flights from Buenos Aires in about ninety minutes and some regional connections. Buses from Buenos Aires take around ten hours.

Buses run frequently from the city into the Punilla, Calamuchita and Traslasierra valleys, and between the hill towns. For most of the region this is all you need.

A hire car is worth it for the Camino de las Altas Cumbres and the Jesuit estancias, which are scattered. The high road is paved and spectacular; side roads into the sierras are often gravel and steep.

Distances are short by Argentine standards — most of the region is within two hours of the city — which makes it unusually easy to travel in.

In January, the Punilla valley road congests badly at weekends.
