Begin with clusters. Fort St George, St Mary's Church, the High Court area and the northern Marina explain the colonial port city. The long seafront then passes civic buildings, university architecture, memorials and everyday evening life; it works best as selected segments, not one exhausting walk.

Mylapore brings Kapaleeshwarar Temple, its tank, market streets and nearby San Thome into one dense cultural district. Triplicane centres on Parthasarathy Temple and older residential lanes. Both are active neighbourhoods, so worship, traffic and festival movement take precedence over sightseeing.

Government Museum at Egmore is the principal indoor collection, with archaeology, bronzes, natural history and art across a campus of galleries. Elsewhere, Valluvar Kottam, Kalakshetra, the Theosophical Society's Adyar grounds when access permits, contemporary art spaces and the city's sabhas reveal different intellectual and performance traditions.

For nature, treat Guindy National Park and Pallikaranai Marsh as protected habitats, not leisure parks. Current access varies. Marina and Besant Nagar are valuable social landscapes, but swimming conditions require local caution.
