Thailand Country Guide

Overview

Thailand is truly an amazing country. Made up of 26 different provinces, the country of Thailand is located on the western region of Southeast Asia and shares its borders with the country of Burma. It is the home of lush forests and majestic mountain ranges, most of which can be found in the northern part of the country. The Mekong River that runs through Thailand, as well as the Chao Phraya River and Mae Nam Ping River, provides the country with fertile river valleys. The western region of the country is home of some of the thickest rainforests which are fed annually by the monsoon rains. Sadly, many of these rainforests are slowly thinning out as a result of mining and the harvesting of teak wood which is in demand in other parts of the world. This led to frequent floods to be experienced within the region. To prevent further damage in the country’s ecosystem, the government had forbidden any logging and mining activities to be done in this region.
