How to Get Around Ontario

Getting in: Toronto Pearson is Canada’s busiest airport, with a rail link to downtown in 25 minutes; Ottawa also has international flights.

A car is necessary for anything outside the cities and the Niagara corridor. Distances are large: Toronto to Ottawa is about four and a half hours, to Sudbury four, and the drive to the far northwest takes days.

Trains run frequently along the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor, which covers Toronto, Ottawa and the southwest, and are comfortable but not fast.

In Toronto: the subway, streetcars and buses cover the city well, and the GO network reaches the surrounding region. Driving downtown is not worth it.

Winter driving requires snow tyres and respect; whiteouts close highways in the snow belts.
