Late May through June and September through early October provide the strongest balance for long walks, cycling, museums and neighbourhood time. May's tulip programming and the autumn-colour period can still create local peaks.
July and August are warm, festival-heavy and busy around national-event sites. July begins with Canada Day pressure, while outdoor music and public programming continue through summer. Use early or shaded hours for exposed ceremonial routes.
January and February are genuine winter months. Winterlude adds purpose in February, but deep cold, snow and ice affect walking. The Rideau Canal Skateway usually belongs to this season, yet opening dates and daily access depend entirely on safe ice.
March, April and November are transitional and less dependable outdoors. December combines winter weather with lights and holiday programming. In every cold month, plan a museum-led day first and add outdoor activity only after checking conditions.
