Bartolomeo Bon

Bartolomeo Bon worked alongside his father Giovanni in the family workshop that produced the finest Venetian Gothic carving of the fifteenth century, and continued after him.

He was a sculptor as much as an architect, and the distinction was not sharp in a tradition where the building's quality lay in its carved detail. The Porta della Carta is the workshop's best-known commission, and he worked on the Ca' d'Oro and on the Carità complex that now houses the Gallerie dell'Accademia.

He died around 1464. As with his father, several attributions are contested and the surviving documents often record payments to the workshop rather than to a named designer.
