Navarre Region Guide

Overview

Situated on the northern part of Spain is the region of Navarre. It is bordered by the country of France to the North, Aragon to the East, Castile and León to the South and by La Rioja and the Basque Country to the West. Navarre is one of the seventeen autonomous regions that make up the country of Spain. This simply means that the region of Navarre is run by its own Parliament and government.

Navarre is one of the smaller regions in Spain. While this may be the case, the region’s geography is extremely diverse, contributing to the wide range of climate travellers may experience while going around the region. But the diversity does not end with the climate. The cultural heritage one can experience and observe in this country is just as diverse. Greatly influenced by the Mediterranean and ancient Roman culture, it is no wonder why the locals pride themselves of having a cultural heritage that is uniquely their own.

If you are planning a trip to the region of Navarre, one of the places you must visit is the Cámara de Comptos located in the town of Pamplona. Built in the 13th century, there are a number of guided tours available which would take you through the beautiful landscaped courtyard and archaeological sites where the remains of the hermitage of San Nicolas were discovered.

Another must-visit site is the Parque Natural de Aralar. Also known as the Aralarland of Legends, the park provides a protective haven for many of the plant and wildlife species thriving in the region. It is also a great site to visit for those fascinated with history since the park offers a variety of funeral monuments and ruins, some of which date back to the Neolithic Period.
