Getting Around
Tropea is walkable and steep, and the coast needs wheels.
The old town is small, flat on top and almost entirely pedestrian. Everything inside it is five minutes from everything else.
Getting between the town and the beach means stairs — a lot of them, and they are hard work in August heat and with luggage.
Parking is outside the old town and is scarce and expensive in season; do not plan to drive in.
The station is a few minutes' walk from the centre and is on the Tyrrhenian coastal line.
Buses run along the coast to Capo Vaticano and the nearby villages, more often in summer.
A car is useful for Capo Vaticano, Spilinga and the interior, and a liability in the town itself.
Boats from the port serve the Aeolian Islands in season.
