There is one way in and it is on foot. The bridge from Bagnoregio is about three hundred metres long, unshaded, and climbs steeply at the far end — it is a real walk rather than a stroll, and there is no alternative route.
A small electric shuttle runs from Bagnoregio to the bridgehead for those who need it, and a service vehicle carries goods across, but no private cars reach the town. Luggage has to be carried or portered, which is worth knowing before booking a room inside.
Parking is in Bagnoregio, in paid car parks near the belvedere, and it fills in the middle of the day in summer.
Within Civita itself there is one street and a square. Everything is within five minutes on foot, and the surfaces are cobbled, steep and uneven.
