Chronology
- Before 1936 — de Chirico lives, in the foundation's words, a life of movement, with stays in various European cities. Structural impact: none here. What you see today: the context for what follows — this is not a family home he inherited.
- 1936–1938 — a significant period in New York. Structural impact: none here. What you see today: the last move before Rome.
- — de Chirico settles in the house at Piazza di Spagna 31, at the age of sixty. Structural impact: a three-floor apartment-studio becomes both residence and workplace. What you see today: the flat, as he arranged it.
- 1948–1978 — he lives and works here for the last thirty years of his life. Structural impact: three floors used as one working household, with the studio above the living rooms. What you see today: the whole of the house-museum, and the reason there is one.
- Today — the apartment-studio is visitable as a Casa-museo, run by the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico, by guided tour at fixed times on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and the last Sunday of the month. Structural impact: a private flat kept as it was and opened to small groups. What you see today: the rooms, on a timetable.
