How to Get Around Syracuse
Getting Around
Stay on Ortigia and walk. The island is about a kilometre long and entirely walkable; most of it is pedestrian or effectively so.
Do not drive onto the island if you can avoid it. Access is restricted, the lanes are narrow, and parking is in car parks at the bridges or on the mainland side. Leave the car and cross on foot.
To Neapolis: about half an hour on foot from the bridges, or a short bus or taxi ride. The walk is through the unremarkable modern city.
By train: the station is on the mainland, fifteen minutes' walk from Ortigia, with services along the coast to Catania and slow connections beyond.
By air: Catania is about an hour by bus or car and is the practical arrival point.
Pantalica and the Plemmirio need a car.
