Silicon Valley is region in California defined by a high concentration and number of technology firms. The growth of advanced computer technology companies in the region has given the name Silicon Valley, with very high profile IT companies like Adobe, BEA systems, CISCO, EBay, Google and Apple amongst others. Originally, the term "Silicon" was due to the many silicon computer chips manufacturers that were based in the area.
The geographical area essentially comprises the cities of San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Campbell and part of the Santa Clara valley. Amongst these, San Jose is the third largest city in California. Based at the southern end of San Francisco Bay Area, with Mediterranean climate, it has transformed from a farming city to an urban landscape due to the IT boom.
The cost of living in Silicon Valley is the highest in California with the highest disposable income than any other US city. The city is divided into North, South, East, West and Downtown areas. With the popularity of IT here, most of the population over here is from other parts of the world, creating a multicultural setting.
Today, the region is easily accessible by air, bus lines and railways. Ample tourist activities enjoyed here are with the Emma Prusch Farm Park or as a cultural hub housing the Opera San Jose or Cathedral Basilica of St Joseph. In addition to events like San Jose Jazz festival, several historical treasures like the History Park, Circle of Palms Plaza are based here. As an education hub exploration with Googleplex, Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, Tech museum of innovation and several others are all right here. With parks, trails and theme parks like Raging Waters or Happy Hollow Park and Zoo, this place is fun for kids and the outdoor enthusiasts as well.
