How to Get Around Greater Poland

Trains are the region’s strength. Poznan is a major junction, with fast services to Warsaw in under three hours and to Berlin in under three, and a dense network of regional lines reaching Gniezno, Kalisz, Leszno and the lake towns. The density is a Prussian legacy and it still works.

Poznan has an extensive tram network, a fast tram line, buses and a bike-share scheme, all cheap and easy.

Getting in: Poznan-Lawica airport is close to the city with European connections; the train from Berlin or Warsaw is often simpler.

Cycling suits the region — flat, quiet roads and a growing network of marked routes, including one following the Piast Route.

A car helps for the country houses and the smaller Piast sites, several of which are awkward by public transport.
