How to Get Around Northeast Algeria

Constantine is the region's transport hub, served by SNTF national rail, a SETRAM-operated tramway within the city, and Air Algérie flights connecting to Algiers and other domestic destinations. Annaba and Sétif also have their own airports and rail connections, though schedules and frequency are more limited than in the capital region.

Travel between the region's Roman sites, Timgad and Djémila, and its cities generally requires a car or organised tour, as public transport does not reach these more remote archaeological locations directly. A valid visa, arranged in advance, is required for all visitors to Algeria, and given the region's limited independent-tourism infrastructure, many visitors travel with a local guide or tour operator rather than arranging transport independently.

By air. Air Algérie serves Constantine from Algiers and other domestic points; Annaba and Sétif also have airports with more limited schedules.

By rail. SNTF, Algeria's national railway, serves Constantine as a confirmed stop on its network.

Within Constantine. SETRAM operates the city's tramway through a dedicated Constantine operational unit.

By car or tour. Timgad and Djémila are best reached by car or organised tour from Constantine; given the region's limited independent-tourism infrastructure, a local guide is strongly advisable.

Visa. A visa is required for all visitors and must be arranged before travel; overstaying can result in detention at departure.
