Alfama is the oldest and most famous neighborhood in Lisbon. This charming area is an attraction in itself. Here you wander through steep winding alleys where laundry is drying between colored houses decorated with old gates and precious flower pots. In the evening, you can hear in many places the famous Fado music. You can also explore the area with the popular tram number 28 that runs through the neighborhood. The old trams give a distinctive look to the district and are an excellent attraction to hop on.
Lisbon’s Cathedral, the 'Igreja de Santa Maria Maior”, is an absolute highlight of the Alfama district as well as the Castelo de São Jorge.
