Last updated on October 28, 2026The beach
A broad field of pale sand separates Chennai's promenade from a restless grey-blue sea. The horizon is almost uninterrupted, while buildings, memorials and fishing craft cluster toward the edges of the view.
Statues and lampposts form a measured rhythm along the city side. On the sand, temporary stalls, games and groups of visitors create a looser pattern that changes through the day.
Morning light makes the beach feel spare and expansive. By evening, crowds and food vendors turn the same space into a busy open-air social district.
