Farnese sculpture. The Farnese Hercules, Farnese Bull and Farnese Atlas are Roman works that preserve the scale and visual language of Greek myth through Roman copies and reconstructions.
The Alexander Mosaic. The floor mosaic from Pompeii’s House of the Faun turns a battle scene into a close study of faces, horses and broken perspective. It is currently undergoing restoration, with observation points for visitors.
The Villa dei Papiri. Bronzes from Herculaneum preserve the sculpture programme of a Roman elite villa. MANN interprets the papyrus discovery, while the carbonised scrolls themselves are conserved and studied at the National Library of Naples.
The Secret Cabinet and Egyptian collection. These rooms show how the museum has displayed erotic antiquities and Egyptian material differently over time. Check the room schedule: galleries can be closed for works or on free-admission days.
