The Decumani. Via dei Tribunali and the lower line followed by Spaccanapoli make the Greek plan easiest to read. Their cross lanes show the ancient grid more clearly than any single monument.
Piazza San Gaetano. Near the centre of ancient Neapolis, it brings San Lorenzo Maggiore, San Paolo Maggiore and entrances to underground remains into one compact urban room.
Via San Gregorio Armeno. Workshops, religious buildings and an active street connect the two principal east-west routes. Its value is the overlap of craft, devotion, commerce and movement.
Above and below. Greek walls at Piazza Bellini and Roman remains survive under later buildings. Collections in the Naples National Archaeological Museum let the street plan be compared with material found beneath and around it.
The wider UNESCO property. The inscription reaches beyond the ancient core to later neighbourhoods and separate component areas. Treat the Decumani as the beginning of the reading, not its boundary.
