Caprarola's attractions are one palace, one lake and one mountain.

The Villa Farnese is the reason almost everyone comes — a vast Renaissance mansion dominating the countryside, begun as a fortress in 1530 to Antonio da Sangallo the Younger's design and completed as the most representative residence of the Farnese family's wealth and power. It is familiar to people who have never been: it has served as a film location for productions including Medici: Masters of Florence, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and The Two Popes.

Lake Vico lies immediately west of the town, in the same volcanic system.

Monte Fogliano rises within the comune, in the Cimini hills whose ancient name — the Selva Cimina — records how impenetrable they once were.

And the village itself is the third thing: a tufa-spur town laid out in front of the palace, which is a piece of Renaissance urbanism in its own right.
