Ponza Events
Ponza's year has one fixed feast and one overwhelming season.
20 June is the feast of San Silverio, the pope who died on nearby Palmarola in 537 and is still patron of the Comune di Ponza — the island's own day, and it falls just before the crowds.
July and August are the season. Beach tourism is the driving sector of the local economy, and thousands of bathers and divers reach an island of 3,107 residents.
June is the best month the island offers: the sea warm enough, the feast of the patron, and the ferries not yet full.
September keeps the water warm and returns the island to itself.
Winter is quiet to the point of emptiness, and crossings become weather-dependent on an exposed Tyrrhenian island.
Checking what is actually on. Regione Lazio publishes a region-wide events calendar on its VisitLazio portal, listing festivals, sagre and historical re-enactments by comune and by date. Local feast days move with the liturgical calendar and small-town programmes are often fixed only weeks ahead, so confirm there rather than relying on last year's dates.
