Sperlonga Events
Sperlonga's year is governed by the beach season and the two patron saints.
Summer is the town's economy. From June to early September the beach, the coast road and the centre all run at capacity, and the lanes of the old town are busiest in the evening.
San Leone Magno, the town's patron, and San Rocco, its co-patron, are the focus of the religious calendar, venerated in the mother church of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo, consecrated on 15 August 1964.
15 August is the peak of the Italian holiday season and the single busiest day of the year here.
Spring and autumn carry the archaeological visit instead: the villa of Tiberius and its museum are far better in May or September than in August.
Winter is quiet, wet and local, with November the wettest month of the year at about 98 mm.
Checking what is actually on. Regione Lazio publishes a region-wide events calendar on its VisitLazio portal, listing festivals, sagre and historical re-enactments by comune and by date. Local feast days move with the liturgical calendar and small-town programmes are often fixed only weeks ahead, so confirm there rather than relying on last year's dates.
