Cinque Terre Site Features

Each of the five villages has a distinct character despite sharing the same coastline. Monterosso al Mare is the largest and the only one with a real sandy beach, making it the most popular base for a longer stay.

Vernazza, often considered the most photogenic of the five, centers on a small natural harbor ringed by pastel houses and waterfront restaurants.

Corniglia is the quietest and least visited, set on a clifftop above the sea rather than beside it. Manarola is known for dramatic sunset views over its harbor and, in December, an elaborate hillside Nativity light display visible from across the valley.

Riomaggiore, the southernmost village, is the traditional starting point for the coastal trail toward Manarola and home to some of the most-photographed harbor views in Cinque Terre.

Ligurian food is a feature in its own right -- fresh seafood, pesto (native to this region), and focaccia sold by the slice from small bakeries in every village.
