Practical information for visiting Lido di Jesolo

Coverage is good throughout the resort — it is a flat, densely built strip serving over a million visitors a year, and the infrastructure reflects that. An EU or EEA phone plan works without roaming charges, which covers most of Jesolo's German, Austrian, Dutch and French clientele without any action at all.

Hotels and beach establishments offer Wi-Fi as standard. There is nothing here to plan around.

Jesolo is a well-policed resort and the risks are the ordinary ones of any crowded beach town: opportunistic theft from beaches, bags and hotel rooms rather than anything worse. The crowd is dense in August and that is when it matters.

The sea is the more serious consideration. This is an open Adriatic beach with a long shallow shelf; swim where the concession flags say to, and treat the lifeguard's flag as the instruction it is rather than a suggestion.

Sun and heat are the health considerations that actually send people to a pharmacy here. The beach is open, the shelf is shallow and the reflected light off the water is stronger than it feels; July and August afternoons on an unshaded lounger are where the damage is done. The beach concessions rent umbrellas for a reason.

Mosquitoes are a genuine nuisance in the evenings through the warmer months, as anywhere on the lagoon margin — repellent is worth packing.

Pharmacies are numerous along the strip and handle most minor problems without a doctor.

112 is the single emergency number throughout Italy and the European Union, connecting to police, fire and ambulance. For an ambulance specifically, the FCDO's advice for Italy is to dial 118 and ask for one.

In season the beach is supervised by the concessions' own lifeguards, and for anything happening in the water they are the fastest response — raise it with them before calling. Out of season there is no beach supervision at all, which is worth knowing before swimming in May or October.
