Montreal's attractions split fairly cleanly between the historic and the modern. Old Montreal holds most of the city's colonial-era sites, including Notre-Dame Basilica and the Marché Bonsecours, while Mount Royal and its park offer the best citywide views and green space right at downtown's edge.

Beyond downtown, sites like St. Joseph's Oratory, the former Expo 67 and Olympic grounds around Olympic Park, and the Montreal Botanical Gardens reflect the city's 20th-century growth, each worth a half-day on its own.
