Site Features

Visitors walk a marked path along the excavated platforms, close enough to see the vertical "librero" (bookshelf) brickwork up close — small adobe bricks stood on end with gaps between them, a technique that let the structure flex during earthquakes rather than crack. Llamas and alpacas are kept on the grounds, a living, slightly incongruous nod to the camelids central to Andean life both then and now. The on-site museum displays textiles, ceramics, and burial goods recovered from the tombs, and after dark the ruins are lit for evening visits, with the adjoining restaurant offering dinner overlooking the illuminated pyramid.
