Practical information for visiting Bangkok
Connectivity & Internet
Air: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang serve the Bangkok region. Airport Rail Link connects Suvarnabhumi with the city rail network; taxis and buses serve both airports. Check the airport code before departure because the two terminals are far apart.
Rail: Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal handles major long-distance services to northern, northeastern and southern Thailand. Some trains still use Bangkok, Thonburi or other stations, so confirm the exact terminal on the State Railway ticket.
Regional road travel: Intercity buses and vans use several terminals rather than one central station. Verify the operator, terminal and arrival point; “Bangkok” on a booking does not identify a convenient central stop.
Digital access: Cellular data is widely useful for maps, tickets and ride details. Save accommodation names in Thai, one offline map and the airport or station details. Do not let a phone screen replace checking the actual taxi plate, pier sign or platform.

Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use normal large-city precautions in markets, nightlife areas, stations and packed vehicles. Keep bags closed and in front, do not leave a phone loose near the street edge, and verify app-booked vehicle details before entering.
Road traffic is a more persistent hazard than street crime for many visitors. Look in every direction before crossing, use bridges or controlled crossings when practical and do not follow another pedestrian blindly through moving traffic. Motorbike taxis require a helmet and still carry substantial risk.
Avoid confrontations involving politics, the monarchy or religion, and follow current Thai law. Do not carry items, bags or substances for another person. Rules and enforcement can differ sharply from those at home; official travel advice is the right source for current legal warnings.
Call 191 for police or a general emergency, 199 for fire and 1669 for emergency medical services. Tourist Police can be reached at 1155 and provide multilingual assistance.
Health considerations
Visitors should carry travel medical insurance suitable for Thailand and their planned activities. Bring routine medicines in original packaging and check Thai rules before travelling with controlled medication.
Heat and humidity can cause illness even during the relatively drier season. Drink regularly, use shade, wear sun protection and move strenuous walking away from midday. Treat dizziness, confusion or fainting as urgent warning signs.
Dengue occurs in Thailand and can be more common during the rainy season. The mosquitoes that transmit it mainly bite during daylight. Use effective repellent, cover skin where practical and seek medical advice for fever or concerning symptoms.
Use food and water hygiene appropriate to a tropical city, especially when heat affects storage. During a PM2.5 episode, check Bangkok's official monitor and reduce prolonged outdoor exertion if health guidance recommends it. Call 1669 for a medical emergency.

Emergency information
Call 191 for police or a general emergency, 199 for fire and 1669 for emergency medical services. Give the district, nearest named landmark, station exit, pier or Thai address where possible.
Call the Tourist Police at 1155 for visitor assistance and translation support. Their official application also provides contact and help functions. This is not a replacement for 1669 during a medical emergency.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's contact centre is 1555 for city services. For a transport problem, also contact the actual railway, metro, boat or airport operator; a generic city number may not control that system.
Keep a copy of your passport identification page, insurance details and accommodation address available offline. During severe rain, flooding, poor air quality or a major ceremony, follow official city and operator instructions rather than an old itinerary.
