Discover Topkapı Palace

Unlike the unified European palace style of Dolmabahçe, Topkapı is organized as a sequence of four main courtyards, each progressively more private and restricted than the last, moving from public ceremonial spaces near the entrance to the sultan's own most intimate quarters deep within the complex. This layered, courtyard-based design reflects classical Ottoman and wider Islamic palace architecture rather than a single European stylistic tradition.

Individual pavilions within the complex — including the Baghdad Kiosk and Revan Kiosk, both built to commemorate military campaigns — showcase Ottoman tilework, calligraphy, and dome construction at a level of craftsmanship the empire reserved for its most significant buildings.
