The golden angel weathervane

Nearly 99 meters up, a gilded copper statue of the Archangel Gabriel caps the tower, rotating freely with the wind like a giant weathervane. It's one of the most recognizable silhouettes on the Venice skyline, visible from across the lagoon.

The five bells

Each of the Campanile's five bells historically had its own civic role: the Marangona marked the start and end of the working day, the Nona rang at the ninth hour, the Trottiera signaled horse races in the piazza, the Mezza Terza sounded at mid-morning, and the Renghiera called the city council to session.

The view from the top

As the tallest structure in Venice, the Campanile is reached by a lift, sparing visitors the climb. From there, the view stretches across the lagoon to islands like Giudecca and San Giorgio Maggiore, with the whole layout of Piazza San Marco visible directly below.
