Santa Marta Farmers Market is a small, Monday-only market at the western edge of Dorsoduro, in a working-class neighborhood most visitors never reach. Mainland farmers sell direct to shoppers here -- fresh produce, cheese, salami, and seasonal specialties like puntarelle -- through Coldiretti's Campagna Amica program, a genuine farmer-direct arrangement rather than a resale market.

This is a Coldiretti Campagna Amica market, meaning the people behind the stalls grew or made what is on them. Buying here sends money to mainland smallholders directly, with no resale step, which is a materially different transaction from buying the same vegetables in a shop.

It is a neighbourhood market in a residential and student quarter with essentially no tourism, and it has no interest in being discovered. Arriving as a shopper works; arriving as a tour group would not.

Bring a bag and expect no English, no card machines at some stalls, and a ticket system that assumes you know how it works. None of that is unfriendly -- it is simply a market that has never had to explain itself.

Santa Marta is a twenty-minute walk from the Accademia along the Zattere, and the walk is the point: it goes past the working end of the Giudecca Canal that almost no visitor sees, and costs nothing.

The market runs Monday mornings only, roughly 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It sits at the western tip of Dorsoduro, near the Tramontin gondola boatyard and the Ca' Foscari university campus, reachable by vaporetto to the Santa Marta stop or on foot from San Basilio along the Giudecca Canal.
