How to get around Capri Island

Marina Grande receives the ferries. The funicular runs directly from the port area to central Capri and is the simplest first transfer when operating. Its route has no intermediate stop. Luggage services are separate, so confirm arrangements with accommodation before arrival.

Buses and walking

ATC buses link Capri, Anacapri, Marina Grande and Marina Piccola, with western routes continuing toward the Blue Grotto and Punta Carena. Buy tickets from an office, authorized retailer or the operator's app when possible. Onboard payment is digital only.

How easily, and at what cost, can you combine the region’s main destinations?

Cost compares the options for each route rather than quoting a fare: inexpensive means the price is not a factor in planning, moderate cost means a real line in the budget, and the expensive option is one worth weighing against the alternative. Fares change from year to year; the ranking between them does not.

Vehicle restrictions are seasonal and specific

Capri is not simply car-free. For 2026, the regional decree bars most non-resident vehicles from 30 March through 2 November, then again from 28 December through 3 January 2027. It also covers rental and foreign-plated vehicles, subject to listed exceptions. Check the current decree before arranging any vehicle shipment.

Buy the ticket before the bus when possible

ATC sells tickets at its offices and authorized retailers, including points around Marina Grande, Capri and Anacapri. Since mid-June 2026, onboard purchases accept only cards, contactless devices or the operator's app. A ticket bought ashore also avoids handling payment while a crowded bus is loading.

Accessible transport needs advance coordination

ATC provides a dedicated vehicle for wheelchair users and companions. It must be booked in advance and operates as an accessibility service, not an island sightseeing shuttle. Confirm hotel steps, funicular status and the final route to each site separately because many historic lanes remain steep.

The chairlift is an attraction, not a cross-island link

The Monte Solaro chairlift leaves from Anacapri and serves the summit. It does not connect Capri town with Anacapri. Use the bus for that transfer, then treat the chairlift as a separate return journey.
