Bolsena's attractions are a basilica, a fortress and a lake.

The Basilica of Santa Cristina, of the eleventh century and Romanesque in style, is where the miracle of 1263 is said to have occurred. It holds works by Benedetto Buglioni, the polyptych of Sano di Pietro and a chapel frescoed in 1498 by Giovanni de' Ferrarris da Mondovì; in August 1976 Paul VI raised it to the dignity of minor basilica. The Chapel of the Miracle, begun in 1639 in baroque style and completed in the nineteenth century, commemorates the event, and the catacombs of Santa Cristina lie beneath the same church.

The Rocca Monaldeschi della Cervara dominates the Castello quarter — the oldest quarter in the Tuscia — and houses the Museo territoriale del Lago di Bolsena.

The Palazzo del Drago is a Renaissance palace designed by Raffaele da Montelupo and Simone Mosca.

And the lake itself, with Etruscan tombs in the surrounding country, completes the set.
