Palestrina's attractions are one great structure and what came out of it.
The sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia is the whole point: an oracular sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Fortuna Primigenia, monumentalised at the end of the second century BC, climbing the hillside in terraces that the modern town is still built on.
Above it, the earliest settlement was probably a citadel on the hilltop, ringed by a cyclopean wall, some of which remains today.
The town's museum holds the material from the site and from the necropolis — including the context of the princely Barberini and Bernardini tombs of the seventh century BC, whose contents were of at least the same quality as those in the cemeteries of Etruscan Caere, modern Cerveteri.
And the town itself is the fourth attraction: streets carried on Roman terracing, with the Prenestini mountains behind.
