Tarquinia Events

Tarquinia's calendar splits between a summer coast and a year-round archaeological site.

Summer fills the Lido di Tarquinia on the coast, which is a different destination from the hill town in practice, and draws Roman and local holidaymakers rather than tomb visitors.

Spring and autumn are the archaeological seasons, when the necropolis is comfortable and the light on the Maremma is at its best.

Religious and civic feasts run in the medieval town, which kept the name Corneto until 1872 and has a long tradition independent of its Etruscan fame.

Tomb openings rotate through the year for conservation reasons, so which painted chambers are accessible varies — worth checking rather than assuming.

Winter is mild, wet and very quiet, and the town belongs to its sixteen thousand residents.

Checking what is actually on. Regione Lazio publishes a region-wide events calendar on its VisitLazio portal, listing festivals, sagre and historical re-enactments by comune and by date. Local feast days move with the liturgical calendar and small-town programmes are often fixed only weeks ahead, so confirm there rather than relying on last year's dates.
