Grinzane Cavour has one attraction and it is a significant one.
The massive medieval castle over the village is one of just three Langhe components of the UNESCO Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont, inscribed on 22 June 2014, and the only individual building among them — the other two are the Langa of Barolo and the Hills of Barbaresco, both whole landscapes. It opens 10:00 to 18:00.
Inside it, the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour has operated since 1967 — among the oldest in Italy, and the first regional wine shop opened in Piedmont — stocking wines, spirits and food from across the territory, together with the Ordine dei Cavalieri del Tartufo e dei Vini di Alba's selection of awarded wineries and prize-winning wines. Every autumn the castle hosts the Asta Mondiale del Tartufo Bianco d'Alba, the world white truffle auction, held for charity.
Beyond the castle there is a village of 1,987 people and the vineyards around it, part of which lie inside the Barolo appellation. Fifteen minutes away are Barolo and La Morra; Alba is a few minutes in the other direction.
