Museo di Santa Caterina

The Museo di Santa Caterina is Treviso's civic museum, installed in a deconsecrated fourteenth-century convent. Its centrepiece is Tomaso da Modena's cycle of the life of Saint Ursula, detached from a demolished church and reassembled here, alongside the frescoes still in place in the convent's own chapel.

The Ursula cycle is detached fresco -- plaster lifted from a wall and remounted -- which is a fragile format, and the museum's light levels and no-flash rule follow from that.

Treviso's civic museum is funded by a city that gets very few staying visitors, and the ticket price is low relative to what is inside. Paying it is one of the more direct ways of supporting the place.

Ticketed, with the usual civic-museum hours and closed Mondays. It is rarely busy, and on a weekday morning you may have the Ursula cycle to yourself.

Around ten minutes' walk from Piazza dei Signori. Allow an hour and a half, more if the archaeological rooms interest you.
