Architecture

Changed

The building is a plain fourteenth-century mendicant convent -- brick, low cloisters, a single wide church -- and the museum has deliberately left it that way rather than dressing it as a gallery. Rooms are recognisably cells, refectory and chapter house.

The church of Santa Caterina is now the main display space, a long unaisled hall which suits the reassembled Ursula cycle: the panels are hung in sequence at something close to their original spacing.

The Cappella degli Innocenti keeps its Tomaso frescoes in place, on the walls they were painted on, which makes an instructive contrast with the detached cycle next door.

Site Features

Changed

The Saint Ursula cycle

Tomaso da Modena's narrative of around 1355, detached from a demolished church and reassembled in sequence.

The Cappella degli Innocenti

Tomaso frescoes still on their original walls -- the same painter, undetached.

The archaeological collection

Roman and pre-Roman material from Treviso and its province, in the convent's lower rooms.

The cloisters

Quiet fourteenth-century brick courtyards, and part of the visit rather than a passage between rooms.

Landscape

Changed

The museum sits in the north-eastern quarter of the walled centre, a few minutes from the canals and the Isola della Pescheria, on a quiet street well off the Calmaggiore route.
