Best destinations by month

May, September and October give the strongest balance for long walks: Central Park's official climate station is mild to warm, and outdoor cultural programmes are active. April is cooler and more changeable but often works well for museums, parks and neighbourhood days.

June through August brings the broadest outdoor calendar and the greatest heat burden. July is normally the hottest month; humidity, thunderstorms and crowded headline sites reward early starts and air-conditioned midday plans.

November and December add major events and holiday demand. Book around Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve deliberately rather than treating them as ordinary winter dates. January through March can suit indoor culture and lighter visitor pressure, but cold, snow, wind and shorter daylight require flexible routes. Rainfall is distributed through the year, so no month is reliably dry.
